Laurent Brossoit, newly signed on a two-year deal, was expected to push Mrazek for the starting role but suffered a setback with a knee surgery that will sideline him for five to seven weeks. This opens the door for Arvid Soderblom, who struggled last season but now has a chance at redemption, likely starting the season as Mrazek's backup.

Lastly, keep an eye on Drew Commesso, the promising prospect who impressed in his rookie AHL season. He'll compete for playing time in Rockford and could make a case for a future role in Chicago.
